Rave Review: Lin Martial Arts is an Amazing Academy

Justin new student to BJJ“Lin Martial Arts is an amazing academy. I’m brand new to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and have only been training here for 2 weeks – but I’m already hooked. Not only is Steve Lin an incredible instructor, but he has created a culture of teamwork. I’ve found all of the more experienced students to be extremely friendly and more than willing to help. I would genuinely recommend these classes to everyone!”

Rave Review: I Trained For Years At Another School Prior … Lin Martial Arts Is A Far Superior School!

Christine likes womens BJJ“I am a firm believer that BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) is the best martial arts to learn as a female. Not only is it great for self defence purposes, but it’s also a fun way to get in shape. I trained for years at another school prior to discovering Lin Martial Arts and know that Lin Martial Arts is a far superior school! Steve Lin is an amazing instructor – having mastered the techniques of BJJ and the art of teaching BJJ. The students at LMA are welcoming and very helpful which makes it a great learning environment. Brazilian Jiu jitsu has enhanced my life in many ways and I look forward to continuing my journey at Lin Martial Arts!”

Rave Review: From a Student That Drives Over 100 km (From Cobourg, ON)To Get To Us Everyday

“Since I joined Lin Martial Arts and started taking the MMA Striking, Muay Thai and Boxing Class, my cardio levels have increased significantly! The Coach teaches us the fundamentals in a FUN way, at the same time challenges us to do better and improve. I always feel like I’m learning and growing confidence and that’s why I drive over 100 km (each way!) to get here. Every week, I look forward to having the best workouts of my week here at Lin Martial Arts!

Rave Review: I Was Just A Skinny Kid From Markham Who Accepted The Challenge Of A Lifetime And WON!

Marc BJJ champThe Lin Martial Arts TEAM has done amazing things for me in so many ways. It opened my eyes to the actual and realistic aspect of fighting. Everyday you get better just by training and listening to top quality instructors. I’ve never been apart of anything so effective towards what it promises. If you had told me 2 and a half years ago that I would place Bronze in the BJJ Ontario Open in a weight class higher than what I am, get GOLD at the AbuDhabi Pro North American Wildcard Championships and compete in the Absolutes and win a match against an opponent 40lbs heavier, then I would’ve probably laughed at you. But the fact of the matter is that I did it! And I owe it all to the abstract thinking and the complex techniques that Steve Lin and the TEAM of Lin Martial Arts teach everyday. If I could do this, so can you! I was just a skinny kid from Markham who accepted the challenge of a lifetime and won, and so can you. What are you waiting for? Your journey for greatness starts here!

Rave Review: The Only Regret I Have Is Not Starting At Lin’s At The Very Beginning

Cordon recommends Lin Martial Arts“I have trained BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) in many different gyms in Canada, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Of all of them, I truly find that Lin’s teachings are of the best quality hands down.

BJJ has always been something difficult for me to pick up. I would learn a bunch of different submissions and defenses which is all great, but I had a difficult time to either remember them, or to apply them when I’m rolling.

With Lin’s school, in TOTAL honesty, I feel like I’ve achieved more in 6 classes, than in 6 months with any other school. It’s really in the quality of the Lin’s teaching that makes his BJJ gym so great compared to many others. He has names that make any series of moves easier to remember, explains all the minor details that help make a submission or defense work, and most importantly, speaks perfect English. =D

The only regret I have is not starting BJJ @ Lin’s @ the very beginning.

I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone that wants to thoroughly develop their BJJ skills.”

Rave Review: Evolve Your BJJ or MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) Training To The Next Level

“I’ve had many coaches/teachers in my life. Ranging from hockey, lacrosse (25 years + 1 year pro) to martial arts. I’ve trained in Thailand, Brazil, U.S.A and Canada; the best coaches/teachers all have something in common. The ability to listen and give their students just the right amount of guidance for the student to learn and develop at their own pace. Steve Lin has this characteristic!

Steve has helped me to become more technical and more efficient in my movements. Steve’s complete understanding of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu allows him to evolve your BJJ or MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) training to the next level.

Even though I outweigh him by 50 lbs, he is a great training partner who gives me all kinds trouble. Just when I think I may be able to touch him he breaks out some “stuff” I’ve never seen before; and when I say, “What the f*#$ was that?” He says it was a variation of some basic we did last week!

From my standpoint he is invaluable to my training as an MMA fighter. His understanding of movement and fighting helped me win my the first MMA competition. It was an 8 man-tournament in which I had 3 MMA fights within 2 hours – none of wich went longer than 6 minutes. His help with regards to ground control enabled me to defeat 2 oponents via Kimura submission and 1 via Ground’n’Pound! Steve is the real deal!”

Rave Review: This Gym Will Not Only Get You Where You Want … It Will Get You There AT LEAST TWICE AS FAST!

“Having trained at other gyms before, I can really appreciate what Lin Martial Arts offers to its students. One of its best attributes is its CURRICULUM. With his methodical approach to teaching, Steve has created a SYSTEM that produces waves of top-quality grapplers from white belts to brown belts. This allows for a wide range of training partners differing in experience and styles. Lin Martial Arts made my training so efficient, that I was able to achieve great results during competition. I placed first in the 2009 Joslin’s Tournament Advanced Division, while being the smallest competitor and studying full-time and working part-time. This gym will not only get you to where you want to be … it will get you there at least twice as fast!”

Rave Review: I switched from another gym and found such a difference in the environment

Starting BJJ was intimidating, coming in as a woman was even more intimidating! I switched from another gym and found such a difference in the environment. Rave Review: You Will Never Find Better Instruction Than At Lin Martial Arts, No Matter How Hard You Look!

I never really found anything I was passionate about, or anything that I could excell at. But when I got into BJJ I found something to be passionate about and I was fortunate enough to start at the right gym: Lin Martial Arts. What’s better then having a passion? Excelling at your passion! And training at LMA has provided that for me. You will never find better instruction, no matter how hard you look!

Rave Review: I Would Qualify Steve Lin As One Of The Most Gifted And Talented BJJ Fighters And Instructors I Have Ever Seen

“I have travelled all around the world and have been blessed to see some of the world’s best fighters train with some of the best instructors. I would qualify Steve Lin as one of the most gifted and talented BJJ fighters and instructors I have ever seen. His attention to detail is second to none and his skill in bringing out the best in his students is incredible. His track record speaks for itself.

He embodies what Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is all about. He may be light, but he is grand in both skill and technique. One of my earliest memories in BJJ took place in 1998. It was then that I sparred with Steve for the first time. I can vividly remember how easily Steve would sweep and reverse me from any position, and consequently submit me over and over again with little or no effort at all. It was that day that I learned one does not need strength to excel in Jiu-Jitsu, but rather, a basic combination of skill, technique and timing. Steve Lin embodies these attributes and over the years, has shared them with anyone who is smart enough to listen.”

Rave Review: For A Maximum Security Prison Officer

I’ve known Steve for around five years and in that time the knowledge he has shared with me has become invaluable. I work as a Correctional Officer in a Maximum Security Prison and occasionally the inmates react to situations with violent outbursts. Not only has the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Steve has taught me saved my life but it has also saved the lives of other staff members and inmates. During the course of my work I’ve encountered situations where I have been attacked and was able to control the situation in a safe and effective manner using BJJ. I’ve also encountered situations where my fellow staff members have been attacked and again the BJJ I’ve learned from Steve was the main reason the outcome was in my favor. I have also been able to protect the lives of inmates from other violent inmates with BJJ. It’s incredible the confidence and ability that I now possess as a result of being a student of Steve Lin. I cannot imagine (nor do I want to) what my life would be like without this knowledge and am excited to continue learning. Thanks to Steve, I am who I am today.

Rave Review: I’ve Not Only Learned The Various Types Of Punches, But Also Great DEFENSE And Counters

I love the classes at Lin Martial Arts because, I’ve not only learned the various types of punches in boxing, but also great defense and counters. The classes are not just about punching but also about speed, slips and counters. The Coach at Lin Martial Arts teaches the many aspects of striking, and is GREAT for those just starting out or those in other fighting disciplines.

Rave Review: If You Want Great Conditioning And To Meet New People, This Is An EXCELLENT CHOICE

The Instructors for the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Striking and Boxing program at Lin Martial Arts really focus on the technical aspects of boxing and striking, which shows me it is not just about how much power you have. The coaches also really help make you understand the counters, defensive moves and strikes. If you want great conditioning and to meet new people, this is an EXCELLENT CHOICE

Rave Review: The Coach Is An EXPERT In His Craft

I really enjoy the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Striking, Boxing, and Muay Thai Classes at Lin Martial Arts because they are taught in a technical, yet approachable and creative manner. The Coach is an EXPERT in his craft and is very effective in passing on his knowledge and techniques. The drills and exercises performed during classes ensure that students of all skill levels will become better and more technical boxers, even if their goals are mainly fitness oriented.

Rave Review: MMA Boxing And Striking Classes At Lin Martial Arts Are Amazing

Asides from the world class BJJ instructions from Steve Lin; boxing classes at Lin Martial Arts is just as amazing. I have been to other boxing gyms only to find that it was yet another group fitness class. I was disappointed, until I found the boxing classes here at Lin’s. The boxing coach at Lin’s is a veteran, and he brings with him a wealth of knowledge in the boxing discipline. The classes are practical and technical, geared towards anyone who is serious about becoming a great striker.

Rave Review: From A Full Time Golf Instructor

As a full time motor skill instructor myself, there was a few qualities I searched for in my Jiu-Jitsu instructor. Technical knowledge and the ability to efficently convey that knowlegde in a digestible format to students was at the top of the list. Steve embodies this abilitly in spades along with a friendly and welcoming personality that makes him an excellent instructor.Regardless of your current ability and experience in the Martial Arts, Steve will help you discover your own potential in the endlessly fun and rewarding practice of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.”

Rave Review: From A Yoga Instructor

“I’m a huge fan of BJJ because not only is it challenging mentally and physically, but it’s a lot of fun! I’m always learning new things and I really appreciate how Steve breaks down the moves. The details are very important and by helping his students make sense of the techniques, movements and strategies, Steve really enables you to develop your own style of game.”

Rave Review: From A Japanese Exchange Student – BJJ Changed My Life!

“When I came to Toronto (from Japan), I really wanted to make local friends. So as to meet local friends, I found the best way was to start Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is, for me, very special. I could make a lot of friends and at the same time get stronger. BJJ changed my life.

I like Steve’s classes very much. He’s very friendly. He is not only my best friend but also he is really a good BJJ instructor and grappler. I can feel how he is good when I roll (train) with him. When rolling with him, he rolls easy even though I go hard. And after rolling, he takes the time to help me fix some part of my BJJ (game) – this is really effective and I like (this approach).

I like the way he teaches me BJJ because he explains techniques in a very specific, detailed way. The more I train BJJ, the more I found I needed specific explanations. I use many tequniques Steve taught me when rolling. And they help me a lot.”

      – Shuichi Hirukawa, Japanese Visiting Student

Rave Review: Do Yourself A Favour: Start Learning NOW And Start Off By Learning The Correct Way

“Steve Lin possesses and shares a cerebral logic to his expression of BJJ. I found his logical approach incredibly practical, and efficient at helping me become competent on the ground. However, do not let my opinion label him as purely cerebral. While his solutions and techniques may appear seemingly simple and direct, it is his fusion of these techniques that puts him on the mastery level. It’s as if he can read minds while always staying several steps ahead.

Being a lightweight I’m always getting crushed by the bigger and stronger guys. Steve always offers a solution to my situation since he himself is light. His teachings constantly remind me that size and strength can be defeated with skill. Remember, he’s been there, he’s thought about it, he’s countered it, and he’s sweeping, passing guards, etc…and he shares his solutions with all his students.

Steve also runs a very open concept for his classes, thus giving the student an opportunity to learn at their own pace while he guides them and offers encouragement. For myself, learning environments where I can ask questions and experiment is where I truly start to learn. Steve encourages this and after class will often put on a pair of boxing gloves or pick up a (Kali) stick and spar with me.

I don’t think nearly enough people train the grappling arts. Do yourself a favour and start learning now and start off by learning the correct way.

Rave Review: NAGA World Champion and Abu Dhabhi Pro Canadian Champion

When it comes to choosing a BJJ gym, the top and most important factor is quality instruction. I find that Lin Martial Arts has the best program and BJJ curriculum around. The curriculum is designed by Steve Lin using his DECADES of experience from competing, training, and teaching BJJ. And with proven results by many students from the same gym in local tournaments. In the 2.5 years I have been there, the program allowed me to win GOLD in numerous tournaments. For an average guy who works as a computer programmer, it’s not bad!
